Classes resume at Nalanda University -after 800 years, boomed the newspaper headlines. Wow! To give you a backup, it was an ancient institution of higher learning in Bihar, India. It even had students as far from Tibet, Greece, China and Iran.
Sadly, it was destroyed by an army of the Mamluk dynasty. The Nalanda possessed a great library which was so vast, that it burned for 3 months after the invaders set it on fire. Springing back to life, it has regained its lost glory.
A recent research worried me a lot, it says Women College students spend 10 hours per day and Men College students spend 8 hours on their cell phones. Scientists warn that this trend might pose a potential risk for academic performance.
This cell phone addiction has become so bad that the students say that they get agitated when the cell phone is not in sight. Researchers warn that this addiction may become an escape mechanism from their classrooms. They may provide a way for the students to cheat.
More scary stories to come, so stay put. A research points out that a short period of cell phone use made the participants less inclined to volunteer for community service. Talking on a cell phone reduces the desire to connect with others, say the researchers. The cell phone addiction makes people less social minded.
Another survey reports that more than 5000 people die each year in vehicle crashes due to distracted driving many of them were texting or talking on cell phones behind the wheel points out the study.
To conclude, be wise when dealing with your cell phones. Do remember you are its master; do not let it enslave you.
