20 Minutes Walking Prevents Early Death + Free Apps For Walking

Sometimes the kids make me so crazy, that I just go out for a long walk to regain my sanity. And I thank God for the kids driving me crazy, after reading this study. The study points out that a brisk 20 minute walk each day can reduce the risk of early death.

Brisk walk

A study of over 334,000 European men and women found that twice as many deaths may be because of lack of physical activity compared with that attributed to obesity. Earlier studies have linked physical inactivity to a greater risk of heart disease and cancer.

Previous research studies have informed us that walking 6000 steps or more per day may protect those with the risk of osteoarthritis from developing issues such as finding it difficult to get up from a chair or climbing stairs.

People who walk to work are 40% less likely to have diabetes and 17% less likely to have high blood pressure than their physically inactive counterparts. If your office is very far and by all means if you can’t walk such long distances, it would be beneficial if you include walking at least 20 minutes a day in some form or the other.

Sadly a study found that 1 in 4 persons said that they did not know how much time they spent briskly walking. After reading this post I believe that you should not be one among them.

Here are some apps that would help you kick start your walking habit. Here we go…
