Bad breath or halitosis is a serious problem affecting the way we live. People who have had bad experience with halitosis develop a kind of fear which may be termed as hilatophobia.
In this post let us discuss the causes of bad breath and the ways to prevent them. Improper brushing and flossing favors bacterial growth between the teeth, gums and tongue and this may cause bad breath. Even some foods such as onion and garlic cause bad breath.
Bad breath may also be due to plaque build up on teeth, improper dental fixtures and yeast infections in mouth and tooth decay. A condition known as dry mouth and stomach ulcer bug can also result in bad breath. Pneumonia, sinus infection, diabetes, chronic acid reflux, liver and kidney problems may also cause bad breath.
In order to prevent bad breath brush and floss twice a day. Pay a regular visit to your dentist. Drink plenty of water. Sugar free chewing gum helps to keep your teeth in top shape. Stop the habit of smoking and quit chewing tobacco based products. Both of them can cause oral cancer.
Now there is another condition which is known as ketone breath which smells bad. If you are on a low carbohydrate diet, the body breaks down fats instead of carbohydrates for energy and it creates ketones. Some of it may be released in mouth which results in bad breath. To avoid such a condition alternate banana and apples as your snack.
If you are practicing good oral hygiene and still suffer from bad breath then it would be wise to see your doctor and ask for an opinion.
Take care,
