How To Manage Neurodegenerative Diseases With Diet?

Neurodegenerative disease is a serious and life threatening condition. This disease worsens balance, movement, talking, breathing and heart function. When I was a kid I heard a preacher say “sometimes we cannot question God” I feel one such question is this.
The various types of degenerative nerve diseases or neurodegenerative diseases are Alzheimer’s disease, spinal muscular atrophy, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and Lewy body disease.
Foods that are generally good for these kinds of conditions are those that are rich in antioxidants and those which contain anti-inflammatory properties.
Foods that are rich in antioxidants reduce nerve damage by preventing free radical attack, environmental toxins and illnesses. Foods that are rich in anti-inflammatory properties reduce the inflammation of the nerves and relieve pain associated with it.
These foods the ones that has anti-inflammatory properties helps promote brain health, rebuilds muscle and tissue cells in the body. They prevent nerve damage and helps in rebuilding of damaged nerves.
Fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants. Lean meats such as fish, chicken and turkey contain vitamin B12 which is a living antioxidant. Flax seeds contain essential omega 3 fatty acids which has anti-inflammatory properties.
Biologists from the University of Pennsylvania have found out from an animal model (fruit fly) the critical role of an enzyme called Nmnat in nerve fiber maintenance and neuron protection.
The biologists hope that this new finding will open new developments in the future for degenerative diseases such as Huntington’s and Parkinson’s and mainly spinal injury.
Take care,
