Health Benefits of Avocado Oil

Table of Contents

Avocado oil is edible oil pressed from the fruit of avocado. It can be compared to olive oil in many ways so much so some researchers have started saying that avocado oil is the “olive oil of Americas”. It has a fat composition similar to that of olive oil.  It can be used in the culinary preparations in the same way as we use olive oil.
Like olive oil the avocado oil is also pressed from the fleshy pulp surrounding the avocado pit. Avocado oil works wonders for your skin. It is high in sterolins which reduces age spots, heals sun damage and scars. Avocado oil gently softens the skin and moisturizes it. It helps in regeneration and rejuvenation of skin.
Avocado oil is very rich in monounsaturated oleic acid. Oleic acid reduces the level of low density lipoproteins and triglycerides in the blood which leads to plaque formation and blood vessel blockage. Avocado oil increases HDL’s which protects the heart from cardiovascular disease.
Avocado oil contains omega 3 fatty acids and omega 9 fatty acids. These along with vitamin E reduce blood vessel damage and make the blood vessels stronger and flexible to respond to changes in blood pressure. Avocado oil contains alpha linoleic acid which reduces the chances of breast and colon cancer. It also prevents the likelihood of skin and prostate cancer.
Environmental factors such as pollution, cigarette smoke and radiation turn the oxygen molecules found in cells into free radicals. These free radicals destroy lipids, proteins and DNA which results in hypertension, ageing and diabetes.
Scientists did some mind boggling experiments to increase cell resistance to harmful effects of free radicals and they found the answer in avocado oil. They did an experiment with yeast cells and found avocado oil protects the yeast cells from the harmful effects of free radicals. And they hope that this will be possible in higher organisms such as humans.
