Be Warned! TV Viewing Can Result in Early Death

Do you watch TV for more than 3 hours a day? Then, be warned! It might be the speeding train, to early death from any cause. It is no rocket science to understand that sedentary behavior can lead to serious health problems.
The research study

Scientists assessed 13,284 young and healthy Spanish University graduates. They aimed to determine the association between watching TV, watching computer and driving and the risk of death from all the above three.

To their surprise they found the risk of death was twofold higher for participants who reported watching television for three or more hours.

There was no significance in the association between risk of early death and time spent using the computer and driving. Earlier studies have reported that prolonged TV viewing is linked to increased risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

I hope you will never go near the television after you finish reading this article. Scientists say that daily TV quota of six hours could shorten life expectancy by 5 years. I am glad they did not say all these scary things regarding computers.

Avoid sedentary life

The above slogan should be your goal to increase your life expectancy. For heaven’s sake, do not be couch potatoes. The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous activity each week.

Take away

Be on the move and reduce your TV watching time. Gardening, cycling, jogging and just plain walking can work miracles in your life.
