Can Smoking Cause Bipolar Disorder in Children

Yet another warning against smoking! Smoking is a serious addiction which causes potential health problems from head to toe. Now a study shows that it can penetrate beyond us and can affect the offspring as well.
The American Journal of Psychiatry in a recently published study warns that smoking during pregnancy increases the chances of bipolar disorder in children. The symptoms are noted when the child enters his teens or early adulthood.
Bipolar disorder exhibits itself in the form of mood swings that range from lows of depression to highs of mania. The study authors say that prenatal tobacco exposure may cause attention deficit, hyperactivity, conduct disorders, oppositional defiant disorder and substance abuse disorders which together can be called as externalizing spectrum.

Now all these sounds terrible don’t them? To make matters worse scientists now say that smoking can cause bipolar disorder in kids. An earlier study found that maternal smoking can cause wheezing and asthma in preschool kids.
Nature has endowed on human race a beautiful blessing that is procreation. To produce healthy offspring tocarry on the torch of human life, Are we doing justice to it? Let me know yourthoughts.
