Watch Out For The Severity of Hot Flushes During Menopause- They Spell Danger

This research study caught my attention. After all, if you are in your late 30’s like me, then it would be better to get mentally prepared for the future. Scientists have found a link between moderate to severe hot flushes during menopause and higher rate of hip fractures.

The link

A study followed thousands of women for eight years. Scientists found that, those people suffering from moderate to severe hot flushes during menopause, suffered higher rate of hip fractures than their peers, who had no menopausal syndrome.

The authors warn that, women who experience such vasomotor menopausal symptoms ,will lose bone density at a faster rate, and nearly double their risk of hip fracture.

Dr. Lisa Kaya an orthopedic expert says that, as you age the amount of bone turnover is greater than, the amount of new bone cell production. As a result, the bone strength decreases putting you at greater risk of fractures.

Menopause accelerates the loss of bone cell breakdown. How? As you approach menopause, your ovaries produce less and less of estrogen. The less the estrogen production, the more the bone cells break down. This puts you at a greater risk of osteoporosis. My! My! What a scary piece of information.

Healthy lifestyle

The health experts advise you, especially those who are suffering from severe hot flushes, to eat a well-balanced diet, Increase your physical activity, and include lots of fish, vegetables and dairy products and cut back on caffeine and salt. After menopause, you can take calcium supplements, say the experts.

Stay active and stay informed.
