Now if you are a lady using intrauterine devices, do not get alarmed after reading this post. Have a word with your doctor, if you have any doubts or stuff you want to get clarified.

IUD

Scientists from American College of Rheumatology have an important message for you. Women who are using intrauterine devices should be careful, because they are at a higher risk of producing autoantibodies, which can lead to the possibility of rheumatoid arthritis.

If you want to know what rheumatoid arthritis is all about? Let me explain to you in detail. It is an autoimmune disease and causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the motion and function of multiple joints. This affects organs as well.

Behind the screen story

Autoantibodies or anti-CCP antibodies, is more likely to be associated with Rheumatoid arthritis. Even if a person does not show the symptoms of RA, high levels of auto antibodies warn us that, they could develop the disease later.

Researchers found that women who were currently using an IUD had higher chances, for increased presence of autoantibodies in their blood. On the other hand, there was decreased risk of anti-CCP positivity in women, who use oral contraceptive pills, either in the present or in the past. That means women using oral contraceptives have decreased chances of getting RA.

Earlier studies have indicated that, the presence of autoantibodies in the blood, may be connected to a higher risk of the development of cardiovascular diseases, not only in those suffering with RA, but also the general population.

Again, I am not here to scare you; if you seem a bit concerned have a word with your doctor.
